How did our bitter drops come about?
In my many years of work as a Shiatsu practitioner and my keen interest in traditional Chinese medicine, I've become increasingly aware of the importance of introducing bitter substances into our Western society. TCM already recognized 5,000 years ago how important bitter substances are for our entire organism, and Hildegard von Bingen was also an advocate of bitter herbs in our region.
And from this knowledge, and the experience that my clients did not take the bitter substances I recommended at the time for long (since the bitter taste is not to everyone's liking, and our body has literally forgotten how to deal with it), I made it my passion, together with my husband, to produce bitter drops that:

The versatile effects of bitter herbs
Bitter drops make an important contribution to maintaining our health, especially when they are produced in Styria.

Wormwood, artichokes, centaury, nettle, sage, yarrow, gentian, ginger,
Milk thistle, birch leaves, cardamom, turmeric, dandelion root, black cumin seeds, rockrose herb, lavender blossoms, and more specifically, 17 herbs and roots are found in these bitter drops, or more precisely, "bitter herbs."
For Sabine and Herbert Bauer, health is their top priority. That's why the Shiatsu therapist and fitness trainer from Weiz developed and produced their own regional herbal bitters recipe. "We produce everything ourselves. Most of the herbs and roots come from wild forages and organic herbs; ginger and turmeric come from the Reitzer family's vegetable farm in Lassnitzhöhe. We also strive to source many ingredients from natural producers in Austria and Europe," says Herbert Bauer.
The so-called handmade bitter drink has been available in stores since March 2021 and is now available not only in Billa Styria/South Burgenland but also in some private Unimarkt stores, Spar supermarkets, Nah & Frisch, and in all pharmacies in Austria.

Recipe with long roots
"I've been practicing Shiatsu for 16 years and therefore engage a lot with TCM. In traditional Chinese medicine, bitter substances are an important component of a balanced diet." Since previously only the traditional Swedish bitters were available, the Bauer family wanted to regionalize the bitter drops and also improve portion control.
"My mother made a stomach bitters over 50 years ago; back then, it was called wind and gall spirit," says Herbert Bauer. For their own stomach bitters recipe, the two also researched historical sources, such as Hildegard von Bingen and TCM. "We want to help people live healthier lives," say the couple, who, in their professional lives, hear about many of their fellow human beings' ailments.
